When you are sued for a debt, unless you answer the lawsuit, you will be placed in default, so whether you owed the debt or not would be irrelevant. After 21 days, that default turns into a default judgment, which gives the debt collector the right to capture any funds in a bank account, take your car, put a lien on your house. So, take care, if you're sued, answer promptly. That way you have a chance to give your side of the story and avoid a default judgment.
