The best way to stop a debt collector from harassing you is to send them a cease and desist letter. You can also send them what's called a validation letter which requests and requires that they prove they actually have the right to contact you. Nine times out of ten, you won't hear from the debt collector again once you send the validation letter. With a cease and desist letter, you are not allowed to be contacted again.
